Destruction does not occur without becoming.
It does no occur together with it.
Becoming does not occur without destruction
It does not occur together with it.

How could there be destruction
Without becoming?
How could there be death without birth
There is no destruction without becoming.

About The Kosovo Series

I traveled to Kosovo from December 2004 to January 2005 on a mission both simple and complex; to explore the landscape of the war-torn region. Due to the instability of the last fifteen years it is difficult to describe the state of Kosovo, which is currently under the governance and protection of the UN.  While I was researching, I found that the physical and psychological landscape of the region was horrifically altered from riots.  During my brief stay there were constant rumors that the prime minister was going to be arrested and people would begin riots and murders anew.  The people that I talked to, who ranged from all over the spectrum of Kosovo society, gave him a fascinating glimpse into Kosovo music, culture, trends, and how you can create innovative art out of the rubble of your life.

The works are a personal dialogue with contemporary trends in art and their meaning both aesthetically and morally when confronted with actual destruction and tragedy.   The images are also the beginning of a larger oeuvre that is greatly engaged in exploring the ethics of representation in the modern world.

These photographs were presented as part of an exhibit at the Zeitgeist gallery in 2006.  Reviews of this show by the Weekly Dig and the Boston Phoenix can be found in my About section.  They also appear online at the American Apparel gallery page that focuses on emerging photographers.  Additionally some of my writings on the region and photographs will be appearing this summer in Anthem Magazine.  Check my news section in the future for updates. I plan on posting an essay I wrote about my experience in my blog sometime in the future.
